Dan Champ is an educator, student travel specialist, and entrepreneur whose career has been guided by a passion for serving others, creating meaningful learning experiences, and helping young people grow both academically and personally. Based in California, Dan has spent more than two decades shaping the lives of students through education, mentorship, and travel.
Raised in Roseville, California, Dan grew up in a close-knit, middle-class family that valued hard work, faith, and community. His father was a civil engineer who dedicated his career to public service, while his mother devoted herself to raising Dan and his sister before later working as a school aide. Dan enjoyed a happy childhood filled with strong friendships, family support, and opportunities to explore a variety of interests. While he participated in sports such as soccer, baseball, and swimming, music became his greatest passion. Beginning in fifth grade, he developed a love for the trumpet and went on to perform in marching, concert, jazz, and pep bands throughout middle and high school. His entrepreneurial spirit emerged early when he founded a youth Dixieland jazz band that performed for several years at the renowned Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee.
Dan earned degrees in English and Political Science from the University of California, Davis, before pursuing a teaching credential in English Language Arts and English Language Development. He later completed a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, further strengthening his commitment to education and student development.
Since joining the Rocklin Unified School District in 1998, Dan has served as both an English Language Arts and History teacher while taking on numerous leadership roles beyond the classroom. Throughout his career, he has coached cross country, softball, and boys’ and girls’ volleyball, while also serving as an ASB advisor for nearly a decade. His dedication to students earned him recognition as Granite Oaks Teacher of the Year in 2017.
One of Dan’s greatest professional passions has been student travel. Since 2001, he has organized and led educational trips that provide students with opportunities to experience history, culture, and personal growth beyond the classroom. Inspired by mentor Joanna Cameron, who introduced him to the student travel industry, Dan eventually transformed his passion into entrepreneurship by founding Champ Tours, a student travel company dedicated to creating safe, educational, and unforgettable travel experiences for young people.
Faith plays a central role in Dan’s life and leadership philosophy. He believes in loving God, loving people, and raising his children to do the same. His personal journey includes overcoming addiction to alcohol and nicotine, an experience that strengthened his faith and deepened his commitment to serving others with compassion and understanding. He credits prayer, Scripture, family, and supportive friendships for helping him navigate life’s challenges and remain focused on what matters most.
Outside of work, Dan enjoys reading, traveling, maintaining an active lifestyle, and continuing to learn through books, podcasts, and conversations with others. He is actively involved in Christian ministry and supports organizations such as Bridgeway Christian Church, Compassion International, Focus on the Family, FamilyLife, and Air1. Guided by his priorities of faith, family, and service, Dan continues to impact lives through education, travel, mentorship, and leadership.
